Asset geolocation and CMMS software

Present for a few years already, geolocation is a technology that is now an integral part of our daily lives (search for addresses, shops, hotels, cafes, or restaurants, etc.). In reality, geolocation has much greater potential: integrated into various mobile applications, this technology offers itinerant technicians the possibility of geolocating equipment and improving the recording of their interventions.
Mobility Work is a Next generation CMMS which allows, among other things, its users to geolocate their equipment and spare parts. This solution makes it possible to rationalize, centralize/group and manage asset tracking in order to optimize the company's maintenance performance.
Mobility Work, the first maintenance management platform and maintenance social network, proposes to connect manufacturers with technicians, suppliers and freelancers. The geolocation feature offered in the Mobility Work software thus allows your employees to quickly locate your equipment.
How does the geolocation of equipment work with Mobility Work software?
The geolocation feature is only available on the Mobility Work mobile application, available on the Apple App Store for the iOS version, and on the Google Play Store for the Android version. These two mobile versions were developed in order to improve the follow-up of maintenance technicians, and to facilitate the registration of their equipment. This step requires the following information to be entered:
- name of the equipment
- Image of the equipment
- equipment description containing all important information
- cost center
- relevant information if the equipment is part of a larger configuration
- labels or keywords associated with the equipment (useful for the analytical module).
When a member of the community registers an equipment, they can also easily add the GPS coordinates of the machine to it on their smartphone: all they have to do is click on “Geolocate equipment” for the application to retrieve the GPS coordinates of your equipment.
The exact GPS coordinates will be displayed on a map available on the equipment page. This information is only available to members of your factory, even if your machine is set to be public. No member outside of your network will be able to access this information.
The use of this feature does not require any prior installation or investment: a connected object and an Internet connection are sufficient.
Geolocation and CMMS software: manage the location of your assets
Thanks to Mobility Work mobile CMMS, technicians can easily geolocate their installations in the field. This information is available to all network employees, in order to be able to intervene directly in the right place as soon as possible.

Why monitor the position of your assets?
Monitoring the position of assets allows you to save money, increase efficiency and improve the management of your spare parts.
Bringing together background information and asset location data in one place helps field maintenance professionals respond quickly. The GPS function makes it possible to facilitate itinerant work, especially in the case where a company has several factories with numerous assets.
For example, the geolocation function of equipment in your CMMS may be associated with the management of various wind turbines by a traveling maintenance technician. Mobility Work makes it possible to geolocate the equipment, and to guide the technician to the said wind turbine in order to carry out an intervention. Likewise, when a maintenance technician intervenes on a railway line, he can identify a defect or a problem, and geolocate his intervention on the mobile CMMS to quickly find the location of the fault.
Finally, the geolocation of equipment can be relevant for industrial groups composed of several factories. The tool thus makes it possible to access information concerning the machines of another factory in the same group, and to locate them in Mobility Work.
If a maintenance manager wants to go further, he can generate data reports based on geolocation data, and on the frequency of use of assets. This eliminates all unused assets and their associated costs. It is also possible to identify the most used assets in order to help you improve the planning of all preventive tasks and to ensure that they run smoothly.
Maintenance technicians often waste too much time looking for spare parts, which can lead to production stoppages. Asset tracking allows you to immediately locate the parts you are looking for.

To go further: geolocation and IoT
The value of industrial applications enabled by the Internet of Things (IoT) at the time of the fourth industrial revolution is currently undeniable. Geolocation has become essential in traditional applications; we can easily imagine and predict the impact of these same data integrated into the IoT.
One can imagine all the possible benefits associated not only with the possibility of locating an object, but also of knowing its condition: has it already been used? Is it currently? and many other questions. Business managers can thus make important decisions based on this data, and thus optimize maintenance and storage costs.
Regardless of the use of the GPS function, bar code, or RFID technologies, mobile asset tracking through IoT represents real added value for manufacturers.
The potential offered by the encounter of geolocation and IoT has already been proven by many major technology companies. Thanks to the flexibility of Mobility Work, the geolocation data present in the CMMS can easily be integrated with other solutions.
Nowadays, asset tracking has become essential to the proper management of equipment. The large number of expensive assets makes this step all the more essential for any business manager, allowing them to track their location and performance.
Mobility Work is a next-gen CMMS and the first maintenance management platform. It makes it possible to connect manufacturers and technicians with suppliers and freelancers. Geolocation data is essential for every member of the community, so a technician can meet with a supplier in the field, and a manufacturer can send a freelancer to work directly on the right equipment. Savings in time and money have a direct impact on improving the production cycle.
