IoT podcast #2: the specificity of IoT products, with RS Components

Hello everyone and welcome to this new Mobility Work podcast!
In this second episode of our new podcast series dedicated to IoT (Internet of Things) in industry, we meet François Dodard, head of value-added solutions at RS Components. Here he explains how the teams of the famous distributor of electronic components and industrial products adapt to the specificities of IoT products to best support their customers.
RS Components is the French subsidiary of the Electrocomponents group, a global distributor for customers and industrial suppliers involved in the design, construction or maintenance of industrial equipment and installations. With 30 years of experience, she has distinguished herself and is one of the leaders in the B2B market. Today, RS Components offers a catalog of 650,000 references and a 75% digital business thanks to e-commerce solutions. A Mobility Work partner, RS Components makes its catalog of spare parts and electronic components available to users of theCMMS application.
IoT sensors, a response to a customer need
In this podcast, François Dodard explains to us how IoT sensors are a separate product in these eyes, designed and developed by the teams of product managers and the innovation teams. Its objective is to offer a meaningful offer and a qualitative product that can meet the needs of customers.
According to François Dodard, the sensor IoT is divided into two parts: on the one hand the IoT sensor itself and on the other hand the sending of the data (hosting, data park, subscription). This second part must be deciphered, in order to develop a product that is perfectly adapted to the customer and their needs. Is it a need for measurement, analysis or control of equipment? Or rather a desire to set up a predictive maintenance ? These are all questions that must be answered in order to be able to offer a suitable product. Once customer needs have been identified, the RS Components teams set up an agile process in order to test the various sensors and identify potential shortcomings.
Partners' expertise: the role of Mobility Work
Mobility Work and RS Components have been working together for about 1 year. Today, in the sector of industrial maintenance, there is a real need for CMMS and expertise around CMMS, especially with IoT. The idea is to create a connected ecosystem between the various service providers, in order to offer a successful and intelligent product to customers: a CMMS, partners linked to the IoT, an autonomous store and other actors. To be effective, however, this ecosystem must be modular, interoperable, duplicable and adaptable.
According to François Dodard, Mobility Work is at the heart of this ecosystem, since this next-generation CMMS solution is in a position to combine all the information between the various sources and that from IoT sensors. In the maintenance sector, IoT, like CMMS, must be easy to use and accessible.
