First start of the MSPC Pro Bac

From the start of the 2021 school year, junior high school students who are heading for maintenance jobs will no longer prepare for the Bac Pro MEI (Maintenance of Industrial Equipment) but for the Bac Pro MSPC (Maintenance of Connected Production Systems). This new degree was created to be as close as possible to technological developments in companies. While maintaining the maintenance activities present in the MEI Pro Bac, the MSPC Pro Bac is enriched with environmental requirements and integrates new connected technologies such as CMMS, IoT or Big Data. The first graduates of this new Bac Pro will be operational on the job market from June 2024.

The general objective: to train multi-skilled maintenance professionals

The MSPC Pro Bac was designed for train versatile professionals whose main objective is to limit the rate of failure or unavailability of systems, regardless of the origin of these failures (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic...) by using all the technological, human and knowledge-based means at its disposal.

These professionals are the guarantors of the availability and improvement of production or service systems, to ensure the functions provided under the desired conditions (rates, availability, etc.) throughout their life cycle, from installation to dismantling.

The MSPC Bac Pro framework is based on the observation that today's maintenance is mainly corrective (repair following a failure) and preventive (early intervention), and that it is increasingly oriented towards conditional maintenance (predictive or not) and towards continuous improvement.

La scheduling and Anticipation in the future, interventions will be increasingly optimized, which will make it possible to further reduce the space for corrective maintenance.

What specific missions and maintenance activities does the MSPC Pro Bac prepare for?

The Bac Pro Maintenance of Connected Production Systems prepares you for the job of technician in charge of maintenance activities for production systems, whose main activities are corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance and improvement maintenance.

This degree takes into account the technological developments in the systems and means of communication that constitute the means of carrying out these activities. This involves, for example, the exploitation of data to conduct an analysis, the implementation and configuration of solutions allowing the analysis of a system, the use of augmented reality for maintenance operations or the retrofit of systems to allow them to communicate within a network.

Depending on the context or organization of the business, missions and activities of these maintenance professionals may relate to:

  • the diagnosis and control of multi-technological systems;
  • carrying out corrective or preventive maintenance interventions in mechanics, electrical engineering, automation;
  • the capitalization of experiences and continuous improvement.

A maintenance technician must be able to perform corrective maintenance operations, to define and carry out preventive maintenance operations and system improvement actions, and to participate in the integration and installation of new systems. He must also be able to communicate effectively throughout his interventions, identify risks and apply the necessary preventive measures.

As part of the interventions of corrective maintenance, a maintenance technician must know how to perform a remote diagnosis and follow instructions by remote maintenance.

As part of the preventive maintenance, he must know how to read, understand and analyze sensor data in order to intervene before failures based on all the information at his disposal rather than on the single machine concerned.

Finally, as part of thecontinuous improvement, he must have the network, field and computer knowledge to intervene on all systems in order to modernize and connect the fleet of machines and equipment.

What transversal skills does the MSPC Pro Bac prepare for?

The MSPC Pro Bac trains future maintenance technicians to take into account:

  • quality requirements;
  • environmental requirements;
  • health and safety requirements;
  • communication requirements in a foreign language.

What sectors of activity does the MSPC Pro Bac prepare for?

The job of maintenance technician for which the Bac Pro MSPC prepares is mainly carried out in the following sectors:

  • agri-food, pharmaceutical, chemical or petrochemical;
  • automotive, aeronautical, railway or naval;
  • electrical energy.

But all sectors requiring system maintenance may be concerned.

What are the career prospects for graduates?

The French industrial context is currently experiencing an evolution of the production model that promotes quality, added value and the optimization of production lines. Maintenance is at the heart of these developments, in particular through the growing importance of maintainability, that is to say, the broad consideration of many stages of the value creation chain. Many professions must therefore increasingly integrate aspects related to maintenance.

Likewise, maintenance is at the heart of ongoing technological revolutions who will shape theindustry of the future or “industry 4.0" : remote maintenance, IoT, virtual and augmented reality, Big Data... Les CMMS software are in full evolution to allow, in particular, the exploitation of the data collected to facilitate decision-making and optimize the organization of work. In addition, the industry of the future tends to limit silo operation in favor of transversal action in companies.

In this context, future Bac Pro MSPC graduates and maintenance professionals must be able to have a broad vision based on these new tools in order to successfully carry out their missions, especially in terms of improved maintenance. Technological and industrial culture will be an indispensable skill, as will the ability to adapt.

Maintenance services are set to become increasingly important in industrial processes, which will offer significant opportunities for development for professionals who are able to adapt. “All production and service sectors are likely to offer opportunities for integration or development to the holder of the vocational baccalaureate Maintenance of Connected Production Systems”, according to the Ministry of National Education.

In practice, the titles of the positions to which holders of the Bac Pro MSPC can apply are, as for the graduates of the Bac Pro MEI, Maintenance technician or Maintenance officer. After a few years of professional experience, they will be able to aspire to management positions, maintenance and service managers, remote technical support technicians, etc. They can also evolve into a team manager position or move towards quality control or production.

What are the modules of the MSPC Pro Bac?

In addition to general education modules, the Bac Pro includes 4 technological and vocational education modules following:
