Mobility Work at Aptiv, an automotive supplier

Maintenance productivity is a particularly strong challenge for companies in the automotive sector, which are therefore more and more likely to adopt a CMMS solution for maintenance management.
Adrien David heads the maintenance and continuous improvement sector of the assembly division within the company. Aptiv, an automotive supplier that manufactures waterproof connectors, both for electric motors and for gasoline and diesel engines.
Here he explains to us how the adoption of the Mobility Work CMMS and the use that is made of it today in its factory.
What are the maintenance issues specific to your company?
“Today, it is mainly the question of Datas who takes care of us. We lack a data culture, we don't have data on the number of times we work on the machines, on the number of spare parts we use, on the cost of general labor, technicians or spare parts.
How did you manage maintenance before adopting Mobility Work CMMS?
Before, we had no real maintenance management tool. Interventions were noted in “production notebooks”, nothing really usable. We just had a “homemade” CMMS where operators noted broken machines. There was no description, nothing about the interventions to be done.
Why did you adopt Mobility Work?
Initially, it was to better manage our curative, to have the machine status (degraded, broken...), to have more information on the types of failures and degradations, to be able to retrieve information from technicians and generate data behind.
How long did it take to set up Mobility Work? How did it happen?
Mobility Work was implemented in 2019. The integration went quite well, our CSM helped us well to integrate all the machine sheets into the CMMS, to structure, to set up, and train the operators. It was pretty quick to set up.
For all the work of creating the CMMS of machines, equipment, etc., we took about a month to configure everything well with his help.
Afterwards, in 2-3 weeks the production department was autonomous to use Mobility Work.

What do you think are the main advantages of this CMMS for the automotive sector?
Regarding the application in general, I find that it is quite easy to use, that the environment is pleasant. In our service, to manage the curative, things are going well. For tasks and equipment research, for example, it works well.
I would say that It is mainly in terms of the maintenance history that it brought us. Now we are able to go find breakdowns, before we didn't have all that, it just depended on what we remembered. Today we can look for the failures that we have already had on an equipment, and find them easily. For product quality issues, the history is really interesting too.
Concretely, it saves us time and makes us more efficient.. This allows us to more easily solve problems by looking in the history and to notice certain recurrences when we look at the number of failures on a machine. Then we can adapt or modify our methods according to that.

What features of the app do you use the most?
Really the curative, daily tasks: creating tasks, monitoring tasks. But there are other services in society that are already using the preventive part.
Are there features that you would like to make better use of?
When it comes to data, we still lack the time and the culture to really go deeper. We are always more sure of the curative than the preventive, we must be at around 70% curative and 30% preventive. We don't have much time to really sit down, analyze the data, and really see the recurring failures. This is our objective, but for the moment we would already like to reverse the trend between preventive and curative. When we are on 50/50 we will surely be able to work more on data. Ideally, we would like to reach 60% preventive..
Recently there have been changes in the structure of the company, and we are in the process of changing everything that is maintenance plans. It is planned that we will pass all the preventive measures on Mobility Work but before that I would like everything to be clean on paper, which is not yet the case. In fact, in the automotive sector we have to respect strict rules in view of the numerous audits.
Do you have specific plans for using Mobility Work?
We have a lot of projects in progress, especially under the impetus of our digitalization department. Preventive is one of them. We would like to integrate the operating procedures directly into Mobility Work, as well as the management of spare parts.. We would also like to link the software we use to monitor the status of our machines to Mobility Work so that it automatically creates tasks in the application.”
Thank you very much to Adrien David for giving us his testimony on his Mobility Work CMMS experience!
