Why better manage your spare parts
The provision of parts at the right time acts directly on the availability of equipment. On the other hand, these pieces represent an important part of the maintenance budget, both in terms of purchases and logistics costs (transport, storage, handling).
It is therefore a question for the maintenance department to find the Good balance to have a sufficient number of critical parts without “overstocking”.
Prevent stockouts with your CMMS
Spare parts stockouts are expensive. A prolonged scheduled production stoppage because of a missing part or taking a risk by continuing to operate equipment while waiting for the arrival of a part will often cost thousands of euros in both cases.
On some production lines, a stop can cost more than €10,000 per hour. To this exorbitant cost is necessarily added the more expensive urgent order from the supplier, not to mention the time that the repair time will then take.
There are several reasons for a shortage of stock, but the most common isno ordering of parts after use.
CMMS is the best tool to monitor the use of your stocks. Simply record the number of parts that were used to complete each work order. Your CMMS will then automatically reduce the number of parts in your stock. Then, when your inventory falls below the specified minimum threshold, it can automatically send a restock alert.
